Building Bridges: Lagos Strengthens U.S.–Nigeria Cooperation for Food Security, Trade, and Diaspora Engagement

Lagos State continues to strengthen strategic partnerships that promote economic growth, food security, and sustainable development for its residents and the wider Nigerian diaspora. Recently, His Excellency, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, received Ambassador Terence P. McCulley, Chairman of the U.S.–Nigeria Council for Food Security, Trade, and Investment, on a courtesy visit at Lagos House, Marina. Discussions focused on practical areas of collaboration, particularly in food security and trade—sectors critical to economic stability, job creation, and improved livelihoods.

Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed the State’s commitment to partnerships that deliver tangible value and align with Lagos State’s development priorities. In his words:

“Lagos remains open to partnerships that make sense and deliver value to our people.”

Under the Governor’s leadership, Lagos State has remained intentional in positioning itself as a leading destination for global cooperation. Through sustained international engagements across infrastructure, transportation, innovation, and economic development, the State continues to pursue partnerships that deliver measurable outcomes for residents and investors.

Strengthening Diaspora Participation in Lagos’ Growth

As the Lagos economy expands, new opportunities continue to emerge for Nigerians in the diaspora, including investment, skills and knowledge transfer, and strategic collaborations that support job creation and economic resilience.

The Lagos State Office of Diaspora Affairs (LASDA) plays a central role in ensuring that diaspora engagement is structured, credible, and impactful. Initiatives such as the Diaspora Real Estate Desk demonstrate the State’s commitment to providing transparent and professional support for Nigerians abroad seeking to invest in property and other sectors of the Lagos economy.

To further strengthen engagement, Lagos State has established the Lagos Diaspora Network as the official platform for Lagosians worldwide to stay connected, informed, and actively involved in the State’s growth and transformation. The diaspora remains a vital part of Lagos State’s future, and Lagosians abroad are encouraged to register at www.lagosdiaspora.ng.

A Shared Vision for Sustainable Development

The engagement between Governor Sanwo-Olu and Ambassador McCulley reflects Lagos State’s broader governance approach—focused on results, accountability, and shared prosperity. By prioritising partnerships that strengthen food security, trade, and economic growth, Lagos is building a more resilient and inclusive future.

Lagos State remains committed to improving the quality of life for its people and invites Lagosians and Nigerians in the diaspora to be active partners in development. Join the Lagos Diaspora Network and follow LASDA on social media for updates on programmes and initiatives supporting a Greater Lagos.
