Lagos is increasingly becoming a preferred destination for global technology infrastructure investment, driven by strategic reforms, expanding digital connectivity, growing enterprise demand, and a rapidly evolving innovation ecosystem.

Over the past decade, the state has evolved into a major centre for digital innovation in Africa, attracting investments in cloud infrastructure, hyperscale data centres, fibre connectivity, fintech innovation, and enterprise technology services.

As Africa’s commercial capital, Lagos continues to provide the scale, connectivity, talent, and market opportunities that global technology infrastructure investors are seeking.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu recently reaffirmed Lagos State’s commitment to enabling innovation and long-term digital infrastructure investment while speaking at the commissioning of the Kasi Cloud Hyperscale Data Center Campus in Lekki, Lagos.

According to the Governor:

“Over the past decade, Lagos has grown into the centre of Africa’s digital economy because our people have continued to build, innovate, and push through challenges.”

He further stated:

“Lagos is open for infrastructure investment and we will continue to honour the commitments we make. If you are building cloud or AI infrastructure, we are ready to work with you because enabling infrastructure is a smart economic strategy for our future.”

These remarks reflect the state’s broader vision of building a resilient, innovation-driven economy supported by strong public-private collaboration, improved digital infrastructure, and forward-looking policy reforms.

Why Investors Are Choosing Lagos

Strategic Connectivity Advantage

Lagos serves as one of West Africa’s most important connectivity gateways.

The state hosts critical ecosystems linked to major global subsea cable systems such as Equiano and 2Africa, helping to improve internet capacity, reduce latency, and support the rapid growth of digital services across the region.

Combined with expanding fibre infrastructure and increasing cloud adoption, Lagos continues to strengthen its attractiveness for global digital infrastructure providers.

Growing Demand for Digital Infrastructure

Nigeria’s rapidly expanding digital economy continues to drive demand for:

  • Cloud computing

  • AI infrastructure

  • Enterprise data services

  • Colocation facilities

  • Financial technology platforms

  • High-capacity internet infrastructure

Industry reports indicate that the majority of Nigeria’s planned data centre expansion pipeline is currently concentrated in Lagos, reinforcing the state’s growing importance within Africa’s digital economy.

Major Global Investments in Lagos

Several major global and regional infrastructure operators are actively expanding their presence in Lagos, including:

Among the notable recent projects is Kasi Cloud’s planned 100MW AI-ready hyperscale data centre campus in Lekki, designed to support cloud computing, artificial intelligence workloads, and enterprise digital services in West Africa.

Other major investments include:

  • Equinix’s $22 million Lagos data centre expansion project

  • OADC’s $240 million Lekki infrastructure expansion initiative

These developments continue to position Lagos as a strategic destination for long-term technology infrastructure investment in Africa.

Policy Reforms Supporting Innovation

The Lagos State Government has continued to implement reforms aimed at creating a business-friendly environment for innovation and enterprise growth.

These efforts include investments in:

  • Digital skills development

  • Fibre connectivity expansion

  • Public-private partnerships

  • Technology-enabled economic growth

  • Energy sector reforms through the Lagos State Electricity Law

Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that these initiatives are essential to building a globally competitive economy for both Lagos and Nigeria.

“This is how we build a true 21st-century economy for Lagos and, ultimately, for Nigeria.”

Building the Future of Africa’s Digital Economy

As global demand for AI, cloud services, and digital infrastructure continues to accelerate, Lagos is positioning itself as one of Africa’s most strategic destinations for innovation, enterprise, and technology investment.

By strengthening infrastructure, enabling private sector collaboration, and investing in digital transformation, Lagos continues to build the foundation for a globally competitive digital future.
