LASDA Travel Update: UK Visit Visas Transition to Fully Digital (eVisa) for Nigerian Applicants Starting 25 February 2026

The United Kingdom Visas and Immigration (UKVI) has confirmed a major update: from 25 February 2026, all Nigerian nationals applying for UK visit visas will receive an electronic visa (eVisa) instead of the traditional physical vignette (sticker) in their passports. This change is part of the UK’s ongoing transition to a fully digital border and immigration system, aimed at modernising processes, improving security, and enhancing convenience for travellers.
Key Changes
No more physical visa stickers will be placed in passports for new UK visit visa approvals.
Successful applicants will access their eVisa digitally via a secure UKVI account.
The application process remains unchanged: submit online, attend biometrics appointments, and meet all eligibility requirements as before.
What This Means for Lagosians and Nigerian Travellers
Create a UKVI account early — you’ll need it to view, manage, and share your eVisa status.
Airlines and UK border officials will verify your visa electronically using your passport details linked to the digital record — no sticker required.
Existing valid physical visas remain fully valid until their expiry date; no replacement is needed.
Benefits of the eVisa System
Faster passport return after approval (no waiting for sticker affixing).
Greater security — digital records cannot be lost, stolen, or damaged.
Easy online access to view and manage your immigration status anytime, anywhere.
LASDA Recommendations for Smooth Travel
Apply early to account for any adjustments during this transition period.
Double-check all personal details (email, passport number) during application.
Before departure, log into your UKVI account, view your eVisa, and save/print a confirmation as backup.
Carry proof of your travel plans and eVisa access details — airlines may request verification at check-in.
Stay informed via official sources like the UKVI website (gov.uk) and the British High Commission in Nigeria.
