Chief Obafemi Jeremiah Awolowo is popularly described as one of Nigeria's founding fathers.
He was Nigeria's foremost Federalist and also a nationalist who played a vital role in the movement for Nigeria's independence, the Civil war, and the First and Second republics.
On September 26, 2017, in his honour, the Lagos state government unveiled a 20 foot statue.

It was erected to keep the Great Awo in the hearts of Nigerians as he is a vital part of the Nigerian history, and to honor Awolowo's legendary achievements and contributions to the country's growth.
