The name "EKO" originates from two well known traditional accounts, the first being the Aworis'.

The name "EKO" was given by the first Awori traditional settlers, who were ruled by "Oba Ado". As a result of these, "Eko" as popularly called by most residents of Lagos remains the traditional name for Lagos till today.
