Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has inaugurated the newly completed Abule Egba Bus Terminal in Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area, aimed at improving mass transportation and connectivity across the state.

Speaking at the inauguration on Tuesday, Sanwo-Olu emphasized the terminal’s role in easing movement for residents.

“Today, I commissioned the newly completed Abule Egba Bus Terminal in Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA), which is designed to enhance seamless mass transportation from this suburb to other parts of our city.”

He noted that the terminal’s proximity to the Lagos Red Line corridor would make it easier for passengers to switch between different transport modes.

“This strategic bus terminal, located near the Lagos Red Line corridor, provides a convenient route for passengers to board and exit buses and connect to other transportation options.”

Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to upgrading Lagos’ transport infrastructure to improve residents’ commuting experience.

“This project marks another significant milestone in my administration’s commitment to upgrading Lagos’ public transportation system with modern, sustainable infrastructure that meets the commuting needs of our citizens.”

He also highlighted his government’s broader vision of improving urban mobility and economic development through an integrated transport system.

“Our vision is to enhance mobility and stimulate urban and economic growth through interconnected transportation networks, offering residents various commuting options by rail, water, or land.”

As part of efforts to make transportation more affordable, the governor announced a fare reduction for the newly launched Red Line rail service.

“To further improve access to intracity rail transport, I announced a 30% reduction in fares for the Lagos Red Line service, lowering costs from N1,500 to N1,000.
“I am also pleased to share that we expect new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and electric buses to arrive by the third quarter of this year, which will expand our fleet, increase bus availability, and reduce waiting times at bus stops.”

Sanwo-Olu also urged residents to take responsibility for maintaining public infrastructure, emphasizing community ownership.

“I urge residents to take ownership of this project, as it has been made possible through your tax contributions. Please take pride in it, protect it, and ensure it remains safe from harm. By safeguarding these assets, we can all benefit from their long-term value and continue to build a better future for our community.”
