As part of efforts towards developing government infrastructure to actualise one of the pillars of the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda, the Lagos State Infrastructure Asset Management Agency (LASIAMA), has completed renovation of 20 schools and 12 health facilities, while on course to complete maintenance work in another 23 schools in the second phase of the project. A statement issued by the Agency, through its Public Affairs Unit, noted that the State Government's investments in infrastructure asset maintenance is geared towards ensuring public facilities are managed to perform optimally. It revealed that the ongoing maintenance work is a sequel to the assessment of public infrastructure such as schools, hospitals, public buildings and MDAs carried out by the agency towards the formulation of a strategic and economic reinvestment plan of the State. While noting that the current administration prioritises infrastructure maintenance in view of its importance in socio-economic growth, the release disclosed that the Special Project Unit of the Agency has been conducting inspection tours of schools under renovation to assess quality of work, stage of completion and materials being used by the contractors. According to the statement, “The list of schools receiving facelifts in the ongoing second phase of the renovation work includes: Surulere Senior Secondary School, Surulere; Adebola Baptist Senior High School, Surulere; Estate Junior Grammar School, Ilupeju; Keme Balogun Senior Grammar School, Ikorodu; Ipakodo Junior Grammar School, Ikorodu and Fagba Junior Grammar School, Iju Station”. “Others are Ogombo Community Junior Secondary School, Lekki; Elegbata Junior High School, Elegbata, and Oke-Odo Junior High School, Ebute-Metta among others”, it added. The release averred that the State Government, through LASIAMA, is doing a lot to improve the maintenance of Lagos State public schools infrastructure facilities as a demonstration of commitment to making learning environments conducive for students because it is vital to the pupils’ success. The release also disclosed that LASIAMA has carried out maintenance work on health facilities such as MCC Eti-Osa, LASUCOM, LASUTH, College of Nursing, Midwifery and Public Health, Igando, and MCC Ifako-Ijaiye etc. It maintained that the initiative is creating outstanding opportunities for job creation as several artisans and stakeholders in the building industry had and are still benefiting from the facility management and renovation being carried out on government facilities.
