The Lagos State Government has intensified efforts to complete construction works on nine concrete jetties, with shelter and shoreline protection across the State waterfront, in a bid to improve and boost water transportation, as well as decongest traffic on the roads.

The Honourable Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Arch. Kabiru Abdullahi, disclosed this on Wednesday at the 2020 Ministerial Press Briefing in commemoration of the First Year in Office of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at JJT Park, Alausa, Ikeja.

The Commissioner stated that the Ministry was able to complete the Baiyeku Waterfront Jetty in Ikorodu during the period under review and the project will be part of those that would soon be commissioned by the Governor to mark the One Year Anniversary in Office.

He revealed that eight other jetties at various stages of completion are projected for commissioning before the end of the year.

According to him, the soon to be completed jetties are Offin Jetty, Ikorodu; Ilado Jetty, Amuwo-Odofin; Ito-Omu Jetty, Epe; Takwa-Bay Jetty, Eti- Osa and Ilashe Jetties, Ojo; VIP Charlet, Apa and Ajido Waterfront Jetties all in Badagry.

While noting that channelisation of waterways projects from Ijede to Badore, Baiyeku to Ajah, Ebute-Ojo to Marina and Ijede to Marina routes have been completed to improve water transportation, Abdullahi disclosed that the channelisation of Mile 2 to Marina route has started following the State government's approval.

He said other achievements of the Ministry in the past 12 months include the removal of ship wreckage to militate against erosion and degradation of coastline at Zaki Village, Amuwo-Odofin Local Government and Takwa-Bay in Eti- Osa Local Government Areas of the State.
