The wife of the Lagos State Governor, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has introduced a leadership initiative aimed at grooming 200 boys from secondary schools across the state for future leadership roles.
The selected students are participating in the 2025 Lagos Boy Child Initiative Residential Workshop, a three-day intensive program designed to instill discipline, leadership skills, and personal development.
As part of the initiative, Dr. Sanwo-Olu led the boys on visits to key government officials, including Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba.
Addressing the participants, Dr. Sanwo-Olu highlighted the significance of nurturing young men into responsible leaders and agents of positive change.
“This initiative is designed to nurture a new generation of well-rounded young men who will contribute positively to society. Leadership starts with discipline, responsibility, and a sense of purpose,” she said.
Beyond leadership training, the workshop also incorporates hands-on culinary skills to prepare the boys for the future, especially as Lagos progresses toward becoming a food tourism hub.
Additionally, the participants will undergo Tenderfoot Training under the Scouts Association of Nigeria, equipping them with survival and teamwork skills.
During their visit to the Deputy Governor, Dr. Hamzat warned the boys about the dangers of peer pressure and drug abuse, emphasizing the importance of staying focused on their education.
“There will be challenges in life, but do not be deceived by those who say education is a scam. Even the world’s richest men, like Elon Musk, went to school. Education will help expand your opportunities,” he advised.
At the Chief Judge’s office, Justice Alogba encouraged the participants to believe in themselves, regardless of their background.
“Where you come from does not determine your future. What matters is what you do with your hands and brain. Success is about hard work and determination,” he said.
The Lagos Boy Child Initiative Residential Workshop aims to shape young boys into confident, responsible, and skilled individuals ready to contribute to society.
