The architecture of the Shitta Bey Mosque is a
rare find on Lagos Island. It is an Afro-Brazilian
style building, which distinguishes it from the
typical dome-shaped structures of mosques.
The mosque was founded in 1892, and it was designated a national monument in 2013 by the Nigerian Commission for Museums and
Monuments. The mosque is named after its founder Shitta Bey, and is regarded as one of Nigeria's most important historical legacies.
