Lagos Deepens World Bank Partnership to Drive Growth, Investment, and Diaspora Opportunities

Lagos State continues to strengthen its position as a forward-looking, globally connected economy, open to partnerships that improve the quality of life for its people. This commitment was reinforced as His Excellency, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, welcomed a high-level delegation from the World Bank Group to Lagos House, Marina.

The delegation, led by the World Bank Managing Director for Operations, Ms. Anna Bjerde, alongside the IFC Regional Vice President for Africa, Mr. Ethiopia Tafara, engaged the State Government in practical discussions aimed at deepening collaboration in priority sectors that directly impact residents.

Key focus areas included energy, agriculture, tourism, and human capital development, critical drivers of economic growth, job creation, and long-term sustainability. Beyond financing, Lagos State is also seeking technical expertise, innovation, and strategic partnerships capable of delivering measurable and lasting outcomes.

Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated the administration’s commitment to attracting investments that raise living standards and expand economic opportunities for all Lagosians. Strategic infrastructure development across transportation, energy access, food systems, and skills development remains central to the State’s growth agenda.

Reflecting on nearly six years of the THEMES+ development agenda, the Governor noted that the objective has remained consistent: to deliver results that people can see and feel. This impact-driven approach has produced tangible outcomes, including Lagos State’s rise from 29th to 1st place nationally in the Ease of Doing Business rankings, following sustained reforms and improvements in public service delivery.

For the Lagos State Office of Diaspora Affairs (LASDA), this engagement underscores the increasing role of the diaspora in Lagos’ development journey. As partnerships with global institutions expand, so do opportunities for Lagosians in the diaspora to contribute expertise, investment, innovation, and global networks to priority sectors.

LASDA encourages members of the diaspora community to stay connected and explore these emerging opportunities. Join the Lagos Diaspora Network to collaborate, receive investment updates, and participate in initiatives that support shared prosperity.
