Lagos Deepens Global Partnerships to Advance the Lagos International Financial Centre Vision

Lagos State continues to strengthen its position as Africa’s gateway for global investment and diaspora-driven opportunities through strategic international engagement and capacity building.

During a recent training programme at the Møller Institute in Cambridge, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led discussions with key stakeholders to deepen alignment and firmly anchor the proposed Lagos International Financial Centre within Nigeria’s broader national development priorities. The session ensured that everyone clearly understands the vision and the long-term economic value of the initiative.

The Lagos International Financial Centre is conceived not as a project for Lagos alone, nor for any single institution or individual, but as a national platform to properly position Nigeria within the global financial system. By getting the fundamentals right, the initiative is expected to attract significant foreign direct investment, stimulate enterprise growth, create quality jobs, and send a strong signal that Nigeria is ready to compete at the highest levels of global finance.

Further engagements took place at the University of Cambridge during the Nigeria Foreign Direct Investment Training Programme, where the Governor shared updates on growing federal support for the project. Notably, His Excellency President Bola Tinubu has expressed strong interest in the proposed financial centre and is looking forward to receiving a detailed proposal, demonstrating clear national leadership and alignment behind the initiative.

The State also acknowledged the critical role of international and private-sector collaborators, including TheCityUK, the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office, and EnterpriseNGR, whose technical expertise and partnerships are helping to shape a globally competitive framework.

For the diaspora community, the Lagos International Financial Centre represents a compelling opportunity to connect skills, capital, and global networks back home. As Lagos builds a more sophisticated financial ecosystem, professionals and investors abroad will find expanded avenues to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s economic transformation.

The work has begun. With sustained focus, collaboration, and stakeholder commitment, Lagos is steadily laying the foundation for a financial hub that will serve Nigeria and Africa for generations to come.
