The Ophthalmic Department of General Hospital, Ijede, on Monday, successfully carried out two eye surgeries simultaneously, each lasting an hour. The Medical Director/CEO, General Hospital, Ijede, Dr. Olufunmilayo Bankole, expressed immense joy over yet another success story at the facility as she lauded the continued investment of the Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu led administration in qualitative healthcare delivery in the State. She explained that the surgeries are the first to be carried out since the department started operations in May 2020, attributing the feat to the commitment of the State government in providing modern infrastructure, state-of-the-art equipment and the recruitment of highly trained professionals in the health sector. Dr. Bankole, a Surgeon, who led the team that carried out the surgeries, said the patients, Mr. Lasisi Hassan (88 years) and Mr. Afeez Lawal (52 years) were recommended for surgeries after being diagnosed with Bilateral Cataract, assuring that the facility will provide adequate attention and qualitative care for the patients to ensure quick recovery after the surgeries. Other members of the surgery team, who include Dr. Oluwarinde Olubunmi, a Consultant Ophthalmologist; Abdul Azeez Risqat, Chief Nursing Officer; Dr. Gladys Ikem, Principal Nursing Officer; Dr. Blessing Agbafor, Medical Officer and Funke Oluwayemi (Anaesthetics), expressed gratitude to God and the State Government for providing the facility as well as the state-of-the-art equipment which aided the discharge of their duties and success stories.
