Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with France in key sectors such as agriculture and public transportation.
Speaking during a visit by the Ambassador of France to Nigeria, Marc Fonbaustier, at the Lagos House, Marina, on Wednesday, Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted the longstanding collaboration between Lagos and the French government.
"We have had extensive, tremendous support and a very wonderful relationship with the French Government, the French Embassy, and the Consul-General in my almost six years in government. And every successive Ambassador and Consul-General has had a pretty unique relationship with Lagos, and we are excited for that. We believe that in your time as Ambassador, you will grow the relationship further," he said.
The Governor emphasized the importance of Lagos to France, noting ongoing cooperation in various sectors, including agriculture and both public and water transportation.
"Lagos is important to France, and there are few things that we are doing together in agriculture, public transportation, and water transportation. We will fashion out how to improve the mutually beneficial relationship, even as a subnational that we are, as compared to both sovereign in France and Nigeria.
"We will continue to let the relationship grow and blossom, and whatever it requires of us to do to improve, enhance, and increase that relationship, we are here to do that," he added.
In response, Ambassador Marc Fonbaustier commended Governor Sanwo-Olu’s leadership, describing him as "a driving force and an inspirational leader." He reaffirmed France’s commitment to deepening its ties with Lagos State and expressed enthusiasm for expanding collaboration through new and ambitious projects.
His visit, he noted, aimed to sustain and build upon the existing strong relationship between Lagos and France.
