Lagos Diaspora Destination: First Storeybuilding


The foundation of the first storeybuilding in

Nigeria was laid in 1842 by Rev. Henry Townsend of the Church Missionary Society (CMS), and was completed in 1845. The story building overlooks the Lagoon waterfront.



It comprises six big rooms, two big sitting rooms, a safe and four stores. It was first occupied by Rev. Samuel Ajayi Crowther who translated the Holy Bible from English to Yoruba within the walls of this historic monument.


The first storeybuilding in Nigeria is a top tourist attraction teaches the Nigerian history to all that come into its borders.
