Lagos recently played host to Her Royal Highness, Crown Princess Victoria Ingrid Alice Désirée of Sweden and Duchess of Västergötland, during a landmark visit that celebrated cultural exchange and international diplomacy.
The Honourable Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, alongside the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olanrewaju Bajulaiye, and senior officials of the Ministry, welcomed the Crown Princess to the John Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History on Wednesday.
The visit formed part of the Crown Princess’s broader mission to deepen her understanding of Lagos’s rich cultural identity and world-renowned hospitality. Situated in the heart of the city, the John Randle Centre served as the perfect backdrop for an immersive experience into Yoruba traditions, artistry, and history.
Earlier in the day, Her Royal Highness also paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu who was well represented by the Deputy Governor Dr Obafemi Hamzat at the Lagos House, Marina. She was received with warmth and appreciation as the state expressed its commitment to building lasting relationships through shared cultural values and diplomatic engagement.
Through initiatives like this, the Lagos State Government—via the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture—continues to shine a global spotlight on the richness of its heritage. These exchanges not only elevate Lagos’s presence on the world stage but also serve as a bridge for Nigerians in the diaspora to reconnect with their roots and celebrate the global recognition of their culture.
For the Lagos diaspora, visits like these are more than just symbolic—they’re a reminder of the global relevance of our heritage, and a call to stay connected, involved, and proud of where we come from.
