
The Lagos State Government has formalized its commitment to developing the Lekki International Airport by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Summa Group, a globally recognized construction company.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu shared this update in a post on X, emphasizing the project's significance in improving connectivity, boosting economic growth, and attracting foreign investment.
Originally announced on October 7, 2022, the airport project is set to be developed on a 3,500-hectare site in the Lekki-Epe axis.
The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the governor on New Media, Jubril Gawat, previously stated that construction was expected to commence in 2023, with master plans and aeronautical designs already prepared.
Studies were also being conducted to determine funding strategies and other necessary considerations before introducing the project to investors.
Designed to accommodate a minimum of five million passengers annually, the airport will be developed in collaboration with both local and international investors.
Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated the state’s commitment to the project, confirming that preparations for its groundbreaking were underway while awaiting necessary federal approvals and airline operational plans.
