Earlier today, the Lagos House in Marina played host to a significant diplomatic engagement as Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu received the new United States Consul General, Mr. Rick Swart. This courtesy visit marks a renewed chapter in the long-standing relationship between Lagos State and the United States.
At the heart of the meeting were shared goals and common values, with discussions focused on deepening cooperation in four key areas: trade, investment, education, and security. Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed Lagos’s position as a commercial powerhouse and innovation hub, while also highlighting the importance of international partnerships in driving inclusive growth.

For us at the Lagos State Office of Diaspora Affairs (LASDA), this visit represents more than diplomacy, it is a call to action. It reminds us of the vital role the global Lagos diaspora continues to play in shaping the future of our state. With a vibrant Nigerian community living across the United States, the opportunities for deeper collaboration are immense, from educational exchanges and skills transfer to diaspora-led investments and entrepreneurship.

Mr. Swart expressed strong interest in expanding current frameworks of engagement and exploring new pathways that benefit both American partners and Lagosians, especially those living abroad. His visit comes at a time when LASDA is actively building new platforms to connect the diaspora with the development priorities of Lagos State.
As we welcome the U.S. Consul General to Lagos, LASDA remains committed to strengthening these bridges. We continue to serve as a connector between home and abroad, championing the voice of the diaspora, encouraging collaboration, and creating spaces where Lagosians everywhere can contribute meaningfully to the future we are building together.
